‘The speculative “propulsten™ concept ‘deseribad tn this paper was presented
at a special session of the 15th Joint AIA/SAE/ASAE Propulston Conference
fune 18-20, 1979), *Propulston Concepts far Galactic Spacecraft”. The concept
was developed as the result of private, umoffictal research. NASA fs mot An
volved in UFO research. However, the research which may be stimulated by thts
paper could result in the vertftcation of the essential elements of this concept
and fn feastbilfty studies concerning tha development of a saw

ASTRACT

A new "propulsion" concept hax been developed based on a proposed resonance
between coherent, pulsed electromagnetic save formas and gravitational wave forms
lor space-tine metrics). Ustng this concept a spacecraft, “propulsion” systen
potentially capable af galactic and inter-gatactic travel without prohibitive
“travel times® has baen designed. The "propulsfon” system utilizes recent re-
search associated with magnetic Tlald line merging, hydronagnetic wave effects,
free-electron Yasers, Taser generation of magagauss fletds, and special structural
and containment metals. Research required to determine potentiat, field resonance
characteristics and to evaluate various aspects of the spacecreft "propulsion"

FIELD RESONANCE "PROPULSION CONCEPT

ASSUMPTIONS :

The field resonance "propulsion" conpept has bren developed utilizing recent
research into the causes of solar flares, magnetic substorms, black holes, quasars,,
and UFOS. The concept 1s based on two assunptians: ()) Space-time is 3 "project fon"
Of a higher dimensional space in much the sane way that a hologran 1s a project fon
or a subset of our spacestine reality, (2) A relationship exists between electro-
magnet ic/hydronagnetic fields and gravitational fields - that ts, Einstein's long
sought for unified field theory can be developed,

 

Mathematical relationships have been developed and theoretical concepts have been
proposed to describe the causes and effects associated with the above assunptions,
But enperimentat data 1s required to develop the correct theoretical basis for the
assonptions (Rachman and Duthe!), 1979}. Specific research in a member of areas
ts needed and will be described later.

ASTROPHYSICAL RESEARCH

There does exist, however, sone astrophysical date which tends to support these
Assunpt tons. For exauple, astronaners have speculated that a relationship may
extst betwean black holes and quasars {white holes}. The energy and matter

which leaves space-time in a black hole may reappear at a write hole at sane
distant space-time point, For this transfer of energy fron one space-time point

49 another Lo occur, same type of hyperspace or figher dinenstonal space (6th & Sth}
is required.

 

Assumption 2 may be the cause of the large amount of energy release in solar flares.
ln sunspot regions where solar flares occur, the 2-3 thousand gauss magnetic f elds
are configured such that the positive and negative polarities are in close proximity
with each other. Mhere the positive and negative magnetic field lines are nearly
anti-parallel a process called magnetic field Vine merging can take place. ln this
process the oppasitely directed rielé lines break and re-connect expelling fields,
and plasma out the sides (See Figure 1). As a result magnetic energy 1s converted
into kinetic energy. The magnetic field Tino merging process has been proposed

as the most Tikely explanation for solar flare eruptions,

However, sane flares can release energy which equals 10x of the sun's total
output Ín a second. This large amount of energy 13 difficult to achieve with the
magnetic field line merging concept. Thus it may be that the configuration of the
Magoat te fields and associated hydromgnatic waves (oscillation of Feld lines) aay
induce & "resonance" with gravitational fields resulting tn a release of gravitational
as well as magnetic energy, It is well known that the geonetricai relationships

of the magnetic fields (and thus the field gradtents) are more Important lo the
praduction af solar flares that the magnitude of the Field strength. A strongly
convoluted boundary between magnetic polarities results 4n a high probability

for targe and frequent flares. Another fact of interest 1s that hydronagnetic

Waves generated by solar flares have been observed to propagate across the
Chranespheric surface and trigger fares in other sunspot regions. Alfven waves »
which appear to be the dominate wave form Ínvolved, etiange only the

geometry of the Field Tings, This effect also indicates that tne initiation af

solar flares definitely depends op geometrical relatfonships as do the properties

of space-tine and gravitational fields.

UFO RESEARCH

UFO studies indicate that the unexplained (residual) UFO phenomena may be due to
extraterrestrial visitors, parapsycholegical experiences, or 8 combination of the two.
2f sone UFO phenomena are’ caused by extraterrestrial visitors in very advanced
spacecraft, then the frequency of visits and the large number of different types
of visitors (aany different humanoids have been described) imply an abidity to
ross large stretenes of galactt¢ ard tnter-galactic space tn relattvely short

If the speed of light ts a true lintt of velocity in space-tine, then the potential
extraterrestrial visitors must utiliza a for of transportation which transcends
space and tine to keep the trip times short, UFOs are’ often observed to disappear
Aostantanecusly. in a subset of these cases, the UFO later reappears at a nearby
Jocation implying a disappearance from and 2’reappearance into space-tine,

The high speed, right ongle turns. abrupt stops or accelerations of UFOs, and the
absence of sonic booms despite calculated speeds of 22,000 mph or more suggest that
UFOs may generate an artificial gravitational field or otherwise use properties

of space-time which we are not familiar with, UFO propulsion systems appear to
involve electromagnetic or hydeonagnetic processes as evidenced by radiative
effects on the environment such as burns, dehydration, stopping of autanobile
engines, TV and radio disrupt fon, melting or alteration of ground and road
surfaces, power disruptions, and’ static electricity effects, This data suggests
that the unknown relationship between electromagnetic and gravitattonal fields

may de Used in UFO propulsion systems,

HISTORICAL OEVELOPMERT OF PROPULSION CONCEPT

 

The concept af transcending space-tine for interstellar and tntergalactic
travel was felt to be a viable possibility based solely on theoretical
studies in phystes and astrophysics and UFO studies. But with the postula-
‘tion and potential discovery of black holes, the potential for experiaental
support for this concept tn the near future has been established. Astranoners
have already speculated on the possiblity that the mass and energy absorbed
by a black hote may reappear tn white holes ar quasars, Far mass and energy
to be transported from one space-time potnt to another without an observable
connection fapties some form of higher dimenstonal Space transcending
space=tíme as we know it.The existence of a higher dimensional space

would open up new space travel poss{btlities since the comectfons between
space-time potnts through this hyperspace could tnvolve laws much different
than those which ave so constraining In space-time. For exonle, 1f each
space-tine point can be assuned to be untque and 1f a relationship does
exist between gravitational and electromagnetic fields, then each space=
time point defined by a geometric form(Elastein's tensor metric) would

be expected to have natural resonances with certain electro/hydro magnetic
wave foros (geometric forms) which ars(effectively) higher or Tower harmonics

The potential existence of the space-tine harmonics mean that if a craft at a
specified space-time point could artificially generate a configuration of electro-/
hydromagnetic fields which has a resonance with a distant space-tine point, a
Paste imbalance wowld be created. This imbalance would be out of harmony with

the “projection laws" which create the space-time properties from higher dimen=
stonel properties, Forces would be set in motion to re-establish a balance which
‘in this case require that the craft and tts fields to be located at the space-time
point where such field configurations are a natura) harmonic of that space-time
metric. The best analogy in every day life {5 thet of tuning a radio, The tuning
knob in this case is the spacecraft's mechanisn tor changing the configuration of the
magnetic wave form, The radio stations are the various space-tine potats, For a
radio, the signal {which is always there) fs manifested through the speakers
associated with the radio, for the field resanance system the speakers exist only
at the radio station. Gace the spacecraft’s magnetic wave form is tuned into a
distant space-time potat, that wave form is forced to manifest only at that space-
tine point according to the "projection laws".

 

 

‘A means of generating the electra-/hydronagnetic conf fgurations which would be
required renatnod a problem until the study af magnetic field Vine merging and
hyéronagnetic nave effects was undertaken. With the completion of recent thesis
research, a possible means for generatiag the magnetic wave form was determined
(Wot, 1579). This research gvong with the results of fusion research resulted ta
the proposed implementation of a spacecraft which generates megagauss magnetic
fields which are oppositely directed (See Figure 3). These oppositely directed
field Hines will merge and re-connect expelling magnetic Fields and plasma out

to the sides. In this initial concept, expelled field lines again meet oppositely
directed fieid Vines and merge again, possibly forcing large mounts of electro~
sagnetic and hydronagnettc radiation outside the craft. “Ths concept is currently
undergoing revision,

 

FLELO RESONANCE CONCEPT.

Th the proposed implementation (See Figure 3) high powered lasers are used to generate
the segapauss Fields by the affects of nenecolinear temperature and density gradients
(truer and Estabrook, 1977; Max et al,, 1978; Nishihara and Ohsawa, 1976). by
alternately pulcing adjacent laser seis, the location of the merging processes can
be made to oscillate back and forth at 4 desired rate. The stouct of Teser

energy can be varied ta alter the strength of the magnetic fields. Thus by

changing the laser's power and/or waveTength and the putse frequency, the resultant
magnetic wave form can be changed or tuned to the desired harmonic of a distant space-
Line point, If Flight to a nearby location is desired, the magnetic wave form can
be continuously re-tuned allowing very quick and short’ space tine transformations.
For an observer it would appear to be a snooth flight tn much the sane way that we
do not see the individual franes of a film. For large Jumps or travel to very
distant space-time points, Sape neans of preventing the tuning to intermediate
space-time points is required. In the recent thesis work it was shown that
hnydromagnetic waves can inhibit or enhance magnetic ffeld line mergíng depending

on a number of factors including the magnitude and frequency of the hydromagnetic
waves (Holt, 1979}, Thus by generating the appropriate hydromagnetic waves, the
generation of a coherent magnetic wave form can be prevented until the laser

is a harmonic of the distant space-time point. Then the hydronagnetic waves can

be stopped and the magnetic wave form can develop.

RESEARCH REQUIRED

‘The magnetic field Vine merging pracess and the effects of varying associated
parameters requires extensive study. Specific laboratory tests shoutd be
conducted, some of which could be conducted in association with fusion research.
These tests should be supplenented by conputer modeling studies and the collection
of experimenta? data on magnetic Field configurations and hydronagnet ic wave
fluctuations before and after solar flares and geomagnetic substorms,

   

‘The generation af megagauss magnetic fields by high powered lasers and the effects
of varying laser paraneters should be studied in laboratory experiments. Much

of this research could be accomplished in assoctation with fusion research.
Contatement and protective materfals and structures for the spacecraft could

atso be a by-product of fuston research. The pumping of Tasers by the use of
magnetic fields should also be studied in laboratory experiments,

Extensive measumenets of the radiation exitted by UFOs would be extrenely useful
in gaining fnstght inte the physics and technology UFOS may represent, These
meesurenents should include photographic spectra (using spectal Filters for

cameras), magnetic measurements (using high sensitivity detectors), recording

of radio’ and sound frequencies, and the use of geiger counters to detect high energy
particles. A large distribut ion of special detectors, as described above, should be
mado to UFO investigators, polica departments, and other interested individuals.

Ip additton, portable modules cantatning sophisticated detectors should be Tocated

at strategie positions tn various countries to allow rapid transport to high
activity areas.

 

Effects on minerals, plants, gnimals, and humans should be studied ta gain insight
into the radiation emitted by UFOs, “Effects on humans such as burns, Symptons

of radiation sickness, and other body changes should be thoroughly investigated by
dhystelans, Regressive hypnosis shauld be used extensively to obtain technologically
valuable information fron UFO close encounter participants. Three dimensional

models of the exterior and interior of UFOs should be made for cases which are
significant from a technological potat of view.

Since the field resonance concept utilizes two unproven assunptions and
currently unverified magnetohydradynanic processes, the concept fs Iikely

to require extensive modificat ion and perhaps a complete revamping following
jnfttal research activity and subsequent feasibility studies. I an conf ident,
however, that the research accomplished under the motivation of thts or a
similar propuls jon concept wi1l result. fn theoretical and technological
eévances and ultimate break throughs ia propulsión and energy systens.
